How the Time Zone Converter works

Time zone rules, including daylight saving time, come from your browser's built-in time zone database, the same one your computer's clock uses. Nothing is downloaded or sent.

Frequently asked questions
Why do some zones have half-hour offsets?
Several countries chose them: India and Sri Lanka use UTC+5:30, and Nepal even uses UTC+5:45.
What happens during a daylight saving change?
When clocks jump forward, the skipped hour doesn't exist and the converter says so. When they go back, an hour happens twice; the first occurrence is shown, with a note.
Is GMT the same as UTC?
For everyday use, yes. UTC is the precise modern standard; London uses GMT (UTC+0) in winter and BST (UTC+1) in summer.
