How the Date Difference Calculator works

Pick a start and an end date. The calculator counts the days between them and shows the same span in years, months and days, in weeks, and as business days (Monday to Friday). Leave the end date empty to count to today.

By default the start date is counted but the end date isn't — from Monday to Tuesday is 1 day. Tick Include the end date to count both, which is what you want for “how many days is my trip” or a date range on a form.

Formula

days = end − start (+ 1 if the end date is included)

start: The start date
end: The end date

Years, months and days are counted on the calendar, borrowing the length of the previous month when needed — the same method as the Age Calculator. Leap days are handled automatically.

1 January to 25 December 2026

358 days — 11 months and 24 days, or 51 weeks and 1 day.

Monday 28 September to Monday 5 October 2026

7 days, of which 5 are business days. Including the end date gives 6.

Frequently asked questions

Are public holidays excluded from business days?

No. Holidays differ by country and region, so only Saturdays and Sundays are excluded. Subtract any holidays that fall in the range.

What if the end date is before the start date?

The dates are swapped and the result is shown as a positive number, with a note that they were reversed.
