How the Final Grade Calculator works

Enter your current grade in the course, how much the final exam counts, and the course grade you want. The calculator finds the final exam score that gets you there, and tells you when the target is already secure or out of reach. It assumes your current grade covers everything except the final.

Formula

needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w

Where:

w: The final's weight as a decimal (30% = 0.3)

Examples

Current 85%, final worth 30%, aiming for 80%

(80 − 85 × 0.7) ÷ 0.3 = 68.33%.

The same, aiming for 90%

You'd need 101.67% — not possible without extra credit.

Frequently asked questions

What if my class uses points instead of percentages?

Convert first: your points earned ÷ points possible so far gives the current percentage. The Percentage Calculator does this.
