Slug Generator

Turn titles into clean URL slugs — lowercase, hyphenated, without accents or punctuation.

Separator

Remove letters from non-Latin scripts

Runs in your browser — nothing you enter is sent to a server.

How the Slug Generator works

Paste one or more titles, one per line, to get a slug for each. The generator lowercases the text, turns “&” into “and”, removes apostrophes and accents (é → e, ß → ss), and replaces spaces and punctuation with a single hyphen.

Letters from other scripts — Sinhala, Cyrillic, Chinese and more — are kept, because modern browsers and search engines handle them in URLs. Choose ASCII only if your system accepts only English letters.

Formula

remove accents → lowercase → punctuation and spaces become “-” → trim

With a maximum length, the slug is cut at the last whole word that fits.

Frequently asked questions

Hyphens or underscores?

Hyphens. Google treats a hyphen as a word separator but joins words linked by underscores, so hyphens are the recommended choice for URLs.

Should I remove words like “a” and “the”?

It's optional. Short slugs are easier to read and share, so trimming filler words by hand is a good habit — but keep the slug meaningful.

Can I change a slug after publishing?

Avoid it: the old URL breaks. If you must, set up a 301 redirect from the old address to the new one.
