How the Image Cropper works

Choose an image, then a shape: square, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 4:5, 9:16 or free. The tool starts with the largest area of that shape, centred. Drag the bright area to move it, or type the left, top, width and height in pixels for an exact crop. With a fixed shape, changing the width sets the height for you.

Select Crop image to see the result and download it. The pixels inside the crop are copied as they are — nothing is scaled — and the file keeps its format (JPG, PNG or WebP; GIF becomes PNG).

Examples

A square profile picture

A 1920 × 1080 photo cropped to a square gives 1080 × 1080, starting 420 px from the left — the middle of the picture. Drag the area if the face isn't in the centre.

A portrait post (4:5)

The same 1920 × 1080 photo at 4:5 gives 864 × 1080. For a wide 16:9 banner from a 1000 × 1000 image, the crop is 1000 × 563.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping reduce quality?

The pixels aren't resized, so detail is kept. JPG and WebP are saved again at high quality (92%), which is visually lossless for photos; PNG stays lossless.

How do I crop to an exact size like 1200 × 630?

Choose Free, type 1200 as the width and 630 as the height, then set left and top or drag the area. If the image is smaller than that, crop to the shape first and enlarge it with the Image Resizer.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The image is opened and cropped in your browser. Saving it again also drops hidden data such as the GPS location.
