How the Barcode Generator works
Choose a barcode type and enter the value. Code 128 encodes any plain text or number — use it for labels, inventory and shipping. EAN-13 and UPC-A are the retail product codes: enter 12 or 11 digits and the check digit is added, or all digits and it is checked.
Barcodes are drawn in your browser with quiet zones (blank margins) that scanners need. Download a PNG for documents or an SVG, which stays sharp at any size for printing. Keep black bars on a white background for reliable scanning.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use these barcodes on products I sell in shops?
The barcode will scan, but retail EAN and UPC numbers must be licensed from GS1 so they're unique worldwide. For your own inventory or labels, any number or Code 128 text is fine.
Why won't my barcode scan?
Print it large enough, keep the quiet zones clear, and use dark bars on a light background. Very thin bars can blur when printed — choose a wider bar width.
What's the difference between a barcode and a QR code?
Barcodes store a short code in one dimension and are read by retail scanners; QR codes store more data, like links, and are read by phone cameras. See the QR Code Generator.
