The Pomodoro Technique splits work into focused sessions separated by short breaks. By default each focus session is 25 minutes, followed by a 5-minute break; after every 4th session you get a 15-minute long break. Select Start focus, and the timer moves from session to break by itself, with a beep at each change.
You can change every length in the settings, turn off automatic starting, or use Skip to move on early — a skipped focus session isn't counted. The remaining time and the current phase appear in the tab title while the timer runs.
cycle = n × focus + (n − 1) × short break + long break
n is the number of focus sessions before a long break.
4 × 25 + 3 × 5 + 15 = 130 minutes per cycle, with 100 minutes of focused work.
With 50-minute sessions, 10-minute breaks and a 30-minute long break after 3 sessions, a cycle is 3 × 50 + 2 × 10 + 30 = 200 minutes.
It's the length Francesco Cirillo used when he created the technique in the late 1980s, timing himself with a tomato-shaped kitchen timer (pomodoro is Italian for tomato). Many people prefer 45 or 50 minutes for deep work — adjust it to suit you.
Something away from the task: stand up, stretch, get a drink or look out of the window. Checking messages tends to pull you back into work.
Yes. The time comes from your device's clock, so it stays correct; browsers may delay the beep in a tab that has been hidden for several minutes. Keep the page open — closing it stops the timer.
Count down from any time up to 99 hours, with quick presets and a beep when time is up.
