How the Download Time Calculator works
Enter the file size and your connection speed. Internet speeds are measured in bits per second (Mbps), while file sizes are in bytes, so the calculator multiplies the size by 8 and divides by the speed. Real downloads are a little slower than the advertised speed because of network overhead and other traffic, so a 10% allowance is added by default. The table shows the same file at common speeds.

1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes; 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes; 1 MB/s = 8 Mbps.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my download slower than my plan's speed?
Speeds are “up to” figures. Wi-Fi, other devices on the network, busy times and the server's own speed all reduce it. Test your real speed and enter that.
What's the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
Mbps is megabits per second; MB/s is megabytes per second. 8 Mbps = 1 MB/s.
Does it work for uploads?
